Avalon Isle News

2007

March 9th- 3pm Friday: Campers start rolling in. Campgrounds are packed by midnight. March 10th & 11th: Excalibur Fantasy Faire opens for its Ninth Season. The campgrounds are completely packed. The new Motte and Bailey Pub opens made to look like Woodhenge. New swings are on line along with some new permanant booths and many familiar merchants.Lots of merriment was had and it was a beautiful weekend. Thanks to all who came out.

March 11th- Sunday night. A huge storm blows through Caldwell county dumping 9.86" of rain on the fairesite and 6"of that within 1 hr. The next morning both merchant and camping road bridges are washed out, the patron bridge had moved 8' downstream and a tool box is found in a tree. Plum creek just south of the Fairegrounds is 20' over its banks and 3 cars are washed off the highway down by I10. Worst rainstorm in Caldwell County history for one night.

March 12th-am. Waters subside and heavy machinery shows up to rebuild both bridges to get the campers who stayed over Sunday night out of the campgrounds. Complimentary food and drink is provided to ease their wait for the bridges to be rebuilt. By the end of the week they'll actually be better than before.

From King Boute: " My personal thanks to those that helped during the storm and afterwords. Avalon had never experienced such a storm before and Merlin hath assured me that he shall stay any other from doing such again. None were injured fortunately and now it's just cleanup as Avalon prepares to open again this weekend. My regrets for those camping who were troubled by this tempest at the Isle and again, accolades to all who helped liberate these trapped souls. Huzzah to the lot of ye!!!."
